Top 5 Vegetarian Restaurants
Tucked away in the small town of Stroud in Gloucestershire, Woodruffs was the UK’s first organic café. It does not have a purely vegetarian menu, with some fish options but it can cater for vegetarians, vegans or those with dairy or gluten intolerances. It has a big range of foods from healthy salads and sandwiches to curries and quiche. It also serves great coffee and has a lovely selectin of freshly made cakes. There are great choices for eating too, with spaces outside as well as inside across three rooms, one catering specifically for families with a play area in it and a stairgate on the door. The staff are friendly as well and will adapt the food as much as possible to cater for all tastes. You always leave feeling like you are healthier than when you went in!
Cranks started life in London in 1961 and have always strived to be as healthy as possible and have now moved to Devon. They are now well-known across the country with a range of cookery books. Food is seasonal but breakfast, lunches can be ordered as well as items form the afternoon menu. These include a full vegetarian breakfast, items on toast or porridge, delicious meals with salad such as stews, mash and tarts as well as paninis and jacket potatoes. You can even order a cream tea with a sweet or savoury option.
This is actually a restaurant chain which is based in India but now has three branches in London. It serves a delicious selection of authentic Indian food but everything is vegetarian. They can also easily cater for vegans and those requiring gluten free dishes as well as dishes with no onion or garlic if required. The dishes are rather more sophisticated than you might find at your local Indian takeaway and they even have trendy lunch boxes to take away if you are working in London and need some lunch on the go.
Terre a Terre
This is a very trendy vegetarian restaurant in Brighton. It may be very different to what you would expect from a vegetarian restaurant though as it provides very hearty and sophisticated food. The good news is that they have a takeaway menu so you can get them to cater at your event, should you need some fantastic and imaginative vegetarian food. They work hard on flavours and textures to produce dishes which are fun, looks great and most of all are very tasting. Considering how many food awards they have won, it seems that they have managed that.
Vanilla Black is a London restaurant which is on par with any Michelin starred restaurant but it serves no meat. This means that you will be in for a very sophisticated meal. The team work with original flavours and modern techniques to bring sophisticated vegetarian dishes to the table. However, they pride themselves on a friendly service so dining is relaxed. They also have a great sense of humour with apologies on their website for not serving pasta bake or veggie curry!
